Counselling is a process of shedding light on how we live, on our problems and on our relationships. Counselling is not an answer in and of itself to life's problems but it is a means to finding your own answers to them.
Counselling can help if:
-
you are experiencing difficulties in living related to anxiety, low mood or stress
-
you would like to understand yourself and your relationships better
-
you are dealing with grief and loss
-
you would like to to find greater meaning in life
-
you would like to change troubling behaviours or habits
Me and My Practice
My name is Ruth Roberts. I am a Senior Accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I have been seeing clients for 17 years. I am also a qualified supervisor and lecturer in counselling and psychotherapy. I have substantial experience of working with clients from all walks of life. I specialise in working with students and can help you find a meaningful direction in life. I also have experience of working with clients with chronic illness and workplace stress.
I aim to help clients to feel valued and heard and I believe a lot can be accomplished by skilful listening and responding to clients. As a result, I rarely give direct advice although I might signpost clients to other sources of help and to psycho-educative and well-being resources.
My approach to counselling is integrative with a strong foundation in Person Centred and Experiential therapy. I have also completed trainings in Mindfulness, CBT skills and working with eating disorders.
I currently have limited spaces available for online sessions with clients and supervisees.
